La nécessité de trouver un contexte précis s'est rapidement imposée. Mon intention étant initialement de valoriser l'histoire d'un bâtiment grâce aux ombres produites par les interactions d'une surface textile et d'une source lumineuse. Je me suis donc intéressée au patrimoine local et à l'histoire des bâtiments de la ville de Bayonne.
Après toutes mes recherches mon choix s'est finalement porté sur le cinéma d'art et essai L'Atalante. Ce cinéma est situé dans le quartier St Esprit, sur les quais de Lesseps. Avant d'accueillir les spectateurs, ce bâtiment était un entrepôt marchand. Du 17ème siècle au 19ème siècle, les berges de cette rive étaient occupées par le chantier naval de la ville. A l'époque le port de Bayonne doté d'une activité florissante se situait à la jonction de la Nive et de l'Adour. A partir du 20ème siècle, le chantier naval s'est déplacé sur Boucau pour devenir un port industriel. Les entrepôts ont été abandonnés ou reconvertis en habitations et commerces.
En 2018, le cinéma L'Atalante initialement rue Denis Etcheverry déménage dans cet ancien entrepôt marchand réhabilité par l'agence d'architecte RANDJA – Farid Azib Architecte.
The necessity to find a precise context appeared quickly. My intention was initially to enhance the history of a building by using the shadows produced by the interaction of a textile surface and a light source. I was therefore interested in the local heritage and the history of the buildings in the city of Bayonne.
After all my research my choice finally fell on the cinema L'Atalante. This cinema is located in Bayonne in the St Esprit district, on the quays of Lesseps. Before welcoming spectators, this building was a commercial warehouse. From the 17th to the 19th century, the shores of this river were occupied by the city's shipyard. At that time, the port of Bayonne was flourishing and was located at the junction of the Nive and Adour rivers. From the 20th century, the shipyard moved to Boucau to become an industrial port. The warehouses were abandoned or converted into housing and shops.
In 2018, the cinema L'Atalante initially street Denis Etcheverry moves in this former warehouse rehabilitated by the agency of architect RANDJA - Farid Azib Architect.
